"Do you really want to delete?"

Slightly in advance of my one month anniversary, I deleted my two main characters, Soprena my lvl 60+++ bard and Bartolo my lvl 55 druid which I started in 1999.

No fancy funerals, didnt log into the game to chat or say goodbye, I just hit delete and created lvl 1 characters with the same name just for good measure. Doh! I had a breastplate that I'd borrowed from someone who now just returned to the game. Oh well, sorry Tenoro.

For the first month I did gain some strength knowing that the characters were there and that I was not playing them because *I* chose not to, not simply because they were gone. That seemed to pass, and I wanted to further my separation from the game by deleting them. I could have given the account away, or at least the 10's of thousands of platinum pieces, but, I just deleted. It's "virtual" stuff, born out of nothing other than a time sink, and it's now just as virtual.

I freely admit to having had fun in the game. I met some nice people, hung out with them at the Fan Faire when it came to my city. But now it's just a little more over than it was a few days ago.

Re: "Do you really want to delete?"

Well done, brother Fastfoot.
That is how I made my farewell...quietly, but surely. My characters will always live in my memory of the game. I don't need to have them active for them to be remembered fondly.

As with the breaking of the CDs, the deletion of one's characters is mostly just symbolic of the final break, but it is the most significant thing one can do really, especially when that is something that you couldn't conceive of just 6 months earlier.

Welcome home!

Re: "Do you really want to delete?"

That is great, Soprena!

Send all of them! I will re-imburse you for postage!

If you would like, feel free to break them (we found cutting them is not as dangerous).

Also, you can sign and date the backs of them, if you wouild like.

I look forward to getting them, for my bowl.

Thank you!

Re: "Do you really want to delete?"

on the 'breaking CD's thing' Liz, Diggo. A while ago when me and my cousin were feeling particularly murderous towards our AOL internet accounts (just after spending about 3 hours on hold waiting to cancel them) we decided to batter some of those CD's.

Through some experimentation we found that putting them in a microwave, while fun, makes the microwave spark = not good.

Ovens are good too, but we had to clean it out afterwards (burnt plastic smells /really/ disgusting)

We tried the snapping-by-hand thing, gave that up pretty fast as we nearly hit his dog with the shards.

Hammers, we got a sledge hammer out of the garage, and whacked the CD.... lovely, it didn't fly into pieces, it just sat there, and crunched into lots and lots of itty-bitty-pieces. < this is my personal favourite, though the oven was impressive too.

I've recently given up on my AOL/ junk CD killing spree's, they now find a much better existance as a drinks-mat, it's amazing how useless a couple days of spilt coffee will make a CD.

Re: "Do you really want to delete?"

I have heard people use them for XMAS tree ornaments....

I want them to fill up my bowl.

We found cutting them with a sharp garden shears also works.

if it's all the same to you, I'm keeping AOL well away from my tree.

Though I'll have to try the shears sometime too.

I collect the cd's because I will be making a table out of them. That is my new craft project for the year 2003.
