decided to quit eve online

Hi,

Few weeks ago I finally realised I was'nt really enjoying the game as a used to, but I kept on playing just to keep the ingame currency coming in. I have been playing eve online nearly every day for the past 15months for around 4-6 hours everyday even more on weekends. I only stopped playing when I left home for holidays or when I needed to work for long hours.

I have neglected too much of my life to keep on playing I even quit photography and reading books just to have more time to play!

2 days ago decided to search for sites related to online gaming addiction and stumbled in to this one. I have read a few articles and progress reports and I decided to quit.

So this is my second day without playing eve I still have thoughts about new ships I wanted to buy and online friends I would like to talk to. I can't believe how much free time I have now to help clean up the house, even cooked for my famliy just to keep me busy. Anyway it's not easy with so much free time I still get the urge to play.

At the moment I feel some relief, although some sadness still creeps in at times.

Hopefully I think I will make it and quit forever:)

Brilliant work :) and

Brilliant work :) and welcome! :)

The way I keep looking at it is: If you're 'missing' it that much, and feeling that sad about leaving it, then it definately is a problem isn't it? No normal hobby leaves us feeling that way, that empty, despairing dependency when it leaves us. It's almost like how we'd feel if we lost a loved one, isn't it?

Except that in this case you are losing some electronic binary coding, and any currency, "work", ship building, conquering etc. that you do within the game, is remembered by the minority of people who are stuck to it, but once you log out, you realise that those hours have counted for nothing. In fact, they have probably caused damage to your life through inactivity, mental indoctrination, etc.

Welcome to clean life. All I can recommend is that you don't be too harsh on yourself, try to fill the days up with plenty of stuff.

And enjoy the sleep. Soon the nightmares and restless nights will end, and you will relax into peaceful sleep, knowing you went another day without burning your soul away on that game.

Dishevelled

I quit gaming on 16 May 2011. Thank you Online Gamers Anonymous for setting me on the right path to conquering my addiction.

hey I had that, actually I

hey I had that, actually I played eve for 3 years on and off

sometimes I think about it, but then it becomes obvious how much of a grind that thing is and how much time you need to spend on it it's insane!

the developers say "it's a game more towards the hardcore crowd" no, it's for people with no life

eve is a horrible thing, they could've made it so it wasn't, but super addictive games bring more money, so that's what they do, it's a drug and CCP is the pusher

you've made the right choice

I went cold turkey from all my games, it didn't last very long, till I had a relapse, but now I can say I am completely game free and I"m getting a lot more sleep haha

If you play video games, turn them off once in a while and rejoin life. Some of us here like you, don't ask me why.

Hey thanks for your replies

Hey thanks for your replies and support it really helps.

I still think a lot about my addiction it has not been easy. Sometimes for a second when I come home I forget and head straight for the computer to start it up.

I already gave away all my ingame stuff and money, felt the need to do that.

Anyways still going strong the more I think about it the more reasons I find to stay away.

This is GOOD!  KEEP it

This is GOOD! KEEP it up! And as you see, and are aware of other things you need to get rid of, change, delete, keep doing it! And you will grow stronger and stronger in the real you! A beautiful thing, I am sure!

And it's a very good thing that you realize what an amazingly dreadful habit something can be--like heading straight for the computer when you get home! Keep making new PHYSICAL, mental, emotional, social PATHWAYS elsewhere, (away from the computer and gaming) where you can be nourished, built up, and can bless others.

Thanks for the update, fish!

I exceed this daily limit and so far have a debt Im trying to make up. The bill so far is 1592.29. These games make me feel good because of the things I do in them but the one thing that I've realized is that they slow me down. The less time I spend on them the more time I have to develop myself professionally. Things like being the head recruiter for a large null sec alliance and owning a capital were all things I wanted to be as a kid however when I first was introduced to them I slowly began to realize how much time I had actually wasted. I could have been out of school and sharing my life with someone else. I've missed a great opportunity all due to these games. I really regret having ever playing any of them. The thing about addiction is that you know you're going to go back to it many times before you are able to quit. I know this because I used to be a chain smoker and it took me many times before I was able to quit cold turkey. I was really sick of being sick every other week. With this addiction Im sick of missing out on opportunities to better my life. I feel kinda bad about not telling my friends that I want to quit but really its what's best because I have an addictive personality. I gotta stop this.

Welcome to OLGA, Amazing.

Welcome to OLGA, Amazing. There's lots of people here who can relate to your story, and you might want to consider starting a thread of your own in which you can tell that story. You'll get lots of great insight if you want it, or you can ask people not to provide ideas, in which case you can just get the therapeutic value of actually expressing some of what's going on inside. You also might want to consider a meeting (check the "meetings" tab up at the top of the page for a calendar), as these provide great support and a chance to share about what's going on. Hope to see you in a meeting sometime soon...

It got worse I had a severe

It got worse I had a severe relapse. The solution is one that I dread. I need to wipe my drives and let them collect dust. I also need to get rid of the account. This is going to kill me.
