  Hi Tim. Nice idea you

Hi Tim. Nice idea you have. I can provide you with some data. I hope more will follow.

----------------------------------------

1. Johnny Steele

2. 32

3. Civilization 4, Alpha Centauri, Age of Empires, Starcraft, Sins of a Solar Empire, Battle for Wesnoth, C&C Generals, and many more etc. etc.

Note: I played mainly single player. Civilization 4 was the most addictive, because it was the most open-ended and 1 game could last 30 hours.

4. Time played 10+ years.

5. This differs depending on life situation (being working or a student / living with somebody or not)

At the height of my recent addiction it was probably 6 hours every work-day night + entire weekends (14 hours a day) = ((6 * 5) + (14 * 2)) / 7 = roughly 8 hours a day.

6. Civilization 4 (2005) 7 years. Alpha Centauri (1999) 13 years, Starcraft (1998) 13 years. (Sometimes I quit a game, and years later picking it up again. I alternated between games.)

7. End of 2010

8. I was hiding my behavior, I was ashamed of it. At the same time the only thing that gave me joy was gaming. I was fed-up with my life style, with this kind of life. I wanted to get rid of it; I just could not believe that this was my life, that this was all I would or could be.

9. You have my permission to use this information (anonimously).

"I want to see people and I want to see life."

Hi tim - here's mine: 1) Rob

Hi tim - here's mine:

1) Rob Murnick (morgenthau)

2) 45

3) Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Heroes of Might & Magic V, King's Bounty and many more...

4) Time since I first played a video game? - probably like 35 years. Time since I became unhealthily attached to videogames? - hard to say - probably like 25 years (Wizardry in the 80s and 90s) although there were long gaps numbering years when I didn't videogame at all.

5) Well, there would be periods where I would spend nearly all of my free time videogaming and periods when I wouldn't game at all. At my height, when working, probably 40-50 hours a week. When not working, maybe 80-90 hours a week.

6) For my most egregious gaming, that would be Oblivion, which I began playing in 2006.

7) March 2011

8) My body began reacting very negatively to my excessive gaming.

9) You may use my information.

BTW - did you intentionally remove questions 7 and 8 above?

Ever reach down to turn down the sound on your car radio, only to realize that it wasn't actually on, and what you wanted to turn down were your thoughts?

Hi Tim, While I applaud your

Hi Tim,

While I applaud your efforts, I would caution you against asserting that the number of hours one plays is indicative on online gaming addiction or whether someone has a problem. For some, they can play 8-10 hours a day without an adverse affect on their lives. For others 3 hours is a problem. Someone may spend 4 hours a day gaming but spend 8 hours a day researching or Googling about their game, quests, etc. People often forget that spending time researching a game online should be considered as part of their total gaming experience. Playing for 2 hours a day doesn't sound like much, but spending an additional 6 hours studying about quests and weapons online during the day when the person should be working, is much more telling.

I personally don't believe there is necessarily a direct correlation between the number of hours one plays and the severity is his problem if any.

As for friends and family you would really need to find out if those hours played are or have been causing problems with the gamer and his relationships or personal lives.

The number of hours played is only one part of the whole equation.

Remember. It's not how often or how much someone plays..but HOW that person's playing is affecting his life and the lives of those he knows.

For whatever it's worth.

Hey Ron, Thanks for the

Hey Ron, Thanks for the feedback, i was going to try to use somthing along those lines when i made it, i know that the number of hours played desent mean they have a problem but it does help to understand the rough times for different ages, although it does mean that i cannot use timeings in the documentry i can still say that games and times are indicitive to each different person playing and that each person has different amounts of time free to do things, like play games.

Thanks

Tim

You are right Tim. I also

You are right Tim.

I also agree with what Ron was saying. But at the same time I was thinking that it is probably impossible to make a questionaire that fits all gamers. Too many differences among people here, their life situations, the reasons to game, etc.

So, yes, a questionaire will never be perfect, but I think yours is quite good. Basically this post was intented to be encouraging. ;-).

Don't know if this would be

Don't know if this would be useful or not, but have you considered classifying different types of gamers? You might have checkoffs for MMORP Gamer, Single Player RP Gamer, Solitaire-Type Gamer, and probably several others....
