IT-school wont be necessairy

IT-school wont be necessairy if you just want to assemble computers.
While some parts may be harder then others its a fairly easy proces.
There are a lot of youtube vids describing the correct manner to install a video card, motherboard, ram, HDD etc. It might also be wise to ask some1 who's good with computers to watch what you do, in order for you to do it right the first time you try it.

The above methode only applies in assimilating home made pc. If you want to learn more in depth about how computer works (for instance what pins of scat transfer what information which way, programming, etc, you'll need to follow an IT course.

  Hi Monkyfist, I am sorry

Hi Monkyfist,

I am sorry but based on your post I am not sure what you are looking for ? You do know this is a site for people who have problems with gaming ? We acknowledge that there are plenty of people who play and do not have problems.

Would you walk into an AA meeting and tell everybody hi, I have been drinking in bars for many years and now I own three bars which are successful businesses and now I still drink in my spare time ?

If you are looking for help because you are having a problem with your gaming interfering with your life then we are here for you...

If you are just here to say that not everybody gets addicted to games and has issues... Well yes we do know that. This site is not for those people. It is for the people who have issues with gaming and need help and support to deal with those issues...

If you are just here to brag then you are in the wrong place... I wish you continued success and hope you never have to deal with what we deal with here...

4 H playing + 8 H sleeping leaves 12H
To spend with your wife ?
Well, you are lucky you own your own computer shop where your wife can work with you.
Where I leave computer market is quite full and a couple like yours already went on bankrupt.
So difficult to follow your example.
Personnaly I have 8H work far from home, 1H lunch time, 2H transportation (go'n'return)..
This would leave 1H on which I have to help for breakfast & dinner, cleaning, setting correctly the children in my wife car (at least now this is family life, as everybody is sitting around the same table). So except for WE, just 4H real time remains.
Yesterday I spend them pushing my younger tricycle, repainting 2nd hand toys I bought at very cheap price one week ago, clean some stuff in the house and reading historic magazine about the 30 Years War, so in my case PC game "safe time" should be reduce to 1H or 1.5 H
Very difficult with some game...or 4H but only on WE.
So OK for your 4H everyday won't be addiction, but for me yes.

It's like gambling (provided it is legal in your state) and loosing 10$ a week when your monthly salary is 2500$. No consequence my grand-mother nearly did it for more than 20 years limiting herself to the state lottery, never entering in a casino nor playing poker, then the shop she was validating ticket closed as the shop-keeperess (who had become her friend) retired so today they still meet for tea instead of playing.

But now, imagine a chinese basic worker (100$ by month) gambling 1$ everyday afterwork ! 7< 10 but the consequences are that he must either not eat at his hunger, either sleep in the street to compensate ! Same for a school boy who has spent all his 10$ pocket money and start searching in his mother's purse for "just this last one I'm sure to win".

I wish I could play only 4

I wish I could play only 4 hours a night but if I try to do that, I will just be frustrated because 4 hours isn't enough. I need at least 12 hours a day to game if I'm going to game. So better for me if I just don't game at all.

Perhaps it should be

Perhaps it should be mandatory to put a "Save & Quit" on every game...
For exemple as I finish Diablo I the 1st time (and knew the trick to back-up my character), I was able to use it as "time killer". Just as a "find the exit" game like the mazes you have on game (paper) magazine.
Should someone need me or the clock ring for my schedule job (going to fetch children, put the food in/out the oven...) back to reality. Of course I was member of no guild, so I had no "duty" neither level progression plannig. I still play it sometimes but will never refuse refuse my child a game of Dungeonquest (a boardgame that you can left on the playroom table one week without having your character dying).

Quite a shame that most todays games "punish" (XP or item loss) you if you shut-down the PC as the family has to get out of the burning house ! (don't laugh, on a french site I read the story of an houswife forgetting the burning oil for fries while she was playing)
You want to do your 1 hour session to relax, get you char killed at 59", here you are back for a 2 hours "vendetta" (+ an extra 2 to recover the items of the team mate who got killed helping you....)

That remember me an episode of "Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman" where a bar tender explained to he put some chili in the whisky bottle he sells to the Cheyennes. This way the drinker, even if he is not addicted to alcohol must drink one more time as his throat burns him (guess why they call it "firewater" in some westerns...). Of course as the nearest drink is the bottle in his hand... Since the 80s "crack" cigarettes work exactly the same way....

The video game addiction

The video game addiction rate is about 8-10% world-wide based on research by Douglas Gentile, PhD (http://drdouglas.org/issue01.html).

Not everyone who drinks will be alcoholics. Not everyone who shops will be horders. Not everyone who place bets will be an addictive gambler. Likewise, not everyone who plays video games will be an addictive gamer.

The problem: as a society, in general, we don't give alcohol, unlimited credit cards, access to casinos, and drugs to our children; but video games, they are free and available everywhere because people are unware of the 1 in 10 who can and will be addicted to video games. The video game addict destroys his/her life and people they love.

It's time our society understands this addiction, prevent it, and help the 1 in 10 who are addicted to video games.

I agree with this.

As a society we don't understand this yet. I sure didn't when I picked up the game. I was in my 50s, old enough to know not to pick up another drug, but games were offered as fun, relaxing, and excitement. Which is perfect for a 50-something woman looking for something to do which doesn't require a lot of activity (since I was working full-time and taking care of a husband).

BUT! guess what! I got addicted. Surprise! surprise!

Now that I am aware, I cringe at people giving their kids games, I cringe at all the advertisements for games, but yet, the gaming industry brings in billions of $$$, so of course they would. Well all that is beyond the scope of this website.

HOWEVER!!! That's all an outside issue. Interesting, but not the task at hand.

Our job at OLGA is to help those 1 out of 10 players who get addicted.
