Hi Im Raven and I live in the UK. I live with two gaming addicts and i want to set up meetings for family and friends of gaming addicts to get support and separate meetings for gaming addicts. If you are a relative or a friend and want support with them I want to set up face to face group meetings in the UK.
Who would want that? I would like a response of if you would attend a meeting if you could and also locations to live in to see if i could arrange something for us all to meet up have a chat and let out our feelings and support eachother
please response on this thread so i can get a general idea, then i can move onto the next step and arrange a meeting. thankyou
Congratulation for this iniciative. I hope that wou can open a new group for help gamers and our family.
You need literature of 12 steps and 12 traditions, if you can get literature of olganon 12 and 12 its better.
You need for to form the new group , a local. You can get a local , for example , call to a group of Alcoholic Anonymous or Al-anon . And they can tell you sites or locals for open a new group.
A place or local where there is already an 12 stepts group ( AA , Al-anon , OA .... ) is always easier to open a new group at this place.
The rent is often very cheap and so easy to pay among a small group of people.

There is absolutely no rule against forming a chapter just for families and friends of addicts, in fact I expect that such OLG-Anon chapters are the future of this organization. In my experience we gamers are not so steady, not as resolute on the whole as our Anon partners, and many of our longest-serving and best members here are mothers and spouses and friends.
We have developed literature just for Family/Friends of addicts. Please consider opening a chapter near you, we'll help you as much as we can.

Hi Its fine i was a bit upset thinking no one wanted help.
I am a recovering gamer my self, ive been there and ive been off gaming since august. i posted another thread with my story but as i said in another one living with two addicts it gets rather lonely at home. Its not like i can watch the tv as their using it, and i dont want to go on games. So i wanted support from others and also giving support on recovering and living with gaming addicts.
As regards Alcoholics Anonymous and al Anon...my father is a receovering alcoholic (sober 30 years this year woo!) I'm trying to find a way to ask him to put this out in his meetings (he usually chairs) but i dont want to do that and have no where to meet! so im asking him that as well. tbh i need to get responses from the local public dont i.... im going to make a few posters and put them up around salford, asking them to email me if they are addicted to related to a gaming addict. Thats my next plan x

I also come from a family affected by alcoholism, but none in recovery, except me.
I'm going to Al-Anon is for families of alcoholics, and there just have been to specific groups for children. From there also was very supportive to my family to understand, because in addition to alcohol, compulsive overeating and I have some gamers as well as my ex-boyfriend of my hometown and some real life friends. You also help me learn more about the 12 traditions and how a group and understand the 12 steps. It also helps me know as I covered my emotions in childhood. I'm learning a lot about myself and how it has affected children, which explains very well as I do then I plugged that suffering with an addiction, go to plug my emotions as codependent relationships codependency aguntaba not more went out to the most fast, the video games.
On local experience, I can tell you that besides having the support of Alanon, you can see the directory of groups and where there is a group, you can talk to the manager of the place where the group rented the room.
But for a new community as OLGA. Well all I can say is my experience with 12-step groups of relatives of Compulsive Overeating (Oa-Non) Well recently in Spain has opened a group in this 12-step fellowship, as it is for familaires, we are taking literature Families Anonymous and Al-anon. The experience that I have is the detailed local duel, in this case we are in a church, where rents are cheap, and as Oa-non we are the first group from Spain that opens, then the pastor of the church has given us a room which are free to us with no rental fee. This is a great help because in this group, the moment we are between two or three people.
So if that, I make a suggestion that this is free and the possibility that you could talk to your father of AA and see if you know of somewhere that can give a room at a low price or free donation. Or if it is difficult to get a lower price then bucar a park or a square and put a reunion schedule and distribute posters like you said.
A question about skype or other mobile ifone. What type of internet connection should have to use skype? In Spain I think are very well imitated and also must have a good phone and ifone is very expensive at the moment.
I've seen others skype in on their mobiles...

I also in Spain I have to do the same, look for people to make a reunion. Although the site's theme, in my case is more complicated because the moment I'm only in my country.
When three people is easier, because even in a park or a church or a hospital to be left free donation, such as having a reunion with more people, that adds stability and makes it easier to make meetings more regularly update. Meetings are always a day a week and weekly.

Having been around for a few years and having met some recovering gamers locally (on Olganon and at local NA Meetings) I support face to face meetings but I am realistic. I do not think Olganon has yet reached the critical mass of people required to maintain meetings in the biggest population centres of the USA let alone in the pretty large country of UK or the small corner of Europe I live in, The Netherlands.
To date only one meeting has succeeded in staying open more than one year and it is still held weekly in Washington DC.
