Teen shot gamer dead over PS4, say police

Daniel Zeitz was killed, police say, by a 16-year-old girl who fired her gun in order to secure his PS4.

Daniel Zeitz is dead.

Police say the 28-year-old from Roswell, Ga., advertised his PS4 on Craigslist. He went to a parking lot to meet the potential buyers. It was 9:30 p.m. last Friday night. As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, the potential buyers, seated in a car, allegedly tried to grab the gaming machine from him.

A struggle ensued. During it, a gun was allegedly fired by a 16-year-old girl in the car. It went through her alleged accomplice's hand and then through Zeitz's chest. It killed him.

The teen's alleged accomplice was named as 20-year-old Nathaniel Vivian. Having been himself shot, he went to hospital with the teen girl. He claimed to have been the victim of an unrelated shooting. At some point, however, he allegedly admitted to the events as the police describe.

Zeitz was known as "Phobos" in the gaming community. A friend posted a YouTube video in homage.

His gaming teammates set up a GoFund Me page to help Zeitz's family with the funeral costs. It currently stands at almost $18,000.

Selling on Craigslist, or anywhere else, to strangers always brings with it the potential for trouble. The site itself has a page listing steps to ensure personal safety.

It suggests never meeting in a secluded place or inviting people to your home. It asks buyers and sellers to think about bringing someone with them, so that they are never alone. It recommends a cafe as an example of a safe place.

It also includes the message: "Trust your instincts."

Police say a gun was found in the alleged accomplices' car. Vivian and the teen girl (who has not been named) have been arrested. She is being charged as an adult.

Sandy Springs Police Sgt. Ron Momon told the Journal-Constitution that the girl's 16-month-old child was in the back of the car during the shooting.

I'm wondering if it's the same person.

So sad.

It is probably a different PHobos. Our member is from Ireland.

This is a good reminder to

This is a good reminder to people to beware of who you meet on Craigslist and meet in safe public places during daylight hours. It's no guarantee--shootings happen in busy parking lots, sometimes, but it's some level of protection. I would say it might be better to sell on eBay and ship the equipment to the buyer.

Other than that, this story has nothing to do with gaming addiction in any way. Some thieves, who often try to steal expensive electronic equipment because it can be resold for a lot of money, tried to steal some expensive electronic equipment, and in the process, killed their victim. It's very sad; it's a warning about Craigslist. But not directly relevant to addiction recovery, it seems to me.

I am a recovering computer game and gambling addict. My recovery birthday: On May 6, 2012 I quit games and began working a program of recovery through OLGA No computer games or slot games for me since December 12, 2012. No solitaire games with real cards since June 2013.

Hi Patria,

Our Phobos is from Ireland.

dan1,

The story shows that some gamers are CRAZY! To kill someone for a game console! The people have to like gaming a "bit too much"!
