Addiction

I have been playing COC  for over a year.

Not only do I play in the game, I have spent countless hours watching videos and read on line game info to learn to improve my game play.

but the most addictive part of the game for me is the social clan chat. I have formed 'friendships" with all of them and it feels like a happy family. Every day I log in numerous times just to check who's on and catch pple I like to chat about the game and sometimes about daily life.

Lately my addictions became so bad that I was starting to play secretly at my work desk, made excuses to leave work early so that I have more game time.

3 days ago I decided that enough is enough. I need to quit so here I'm looking for help. I feel very lonely now that I don't have my usual social time. But I have found other things to try to fill the gap.

I also told me my partner that I have quit and that I will be miserable and will need his help. I is very supportive. I really hope I can do it this time. Can someone give me some support here as well so I know I not alone?

Hi Smmi and welcome to Olga.

Hi Smmi and welcome to Olga.  Quitting gaming is hard, but you don't have to do it alone.  I have found that going to meetings helps tremendously.  There are daily meetings available and I hope you can join us.  Here's a link to the meeting schedule:  http://www.olganon.org/forum/line-meetings-message-board/all-online-meetings-computervideo-gaming-addicts   Most of the meetings are held on mumble and there's a link to instructions for joining the meeting on this page.

Also, feel free to pm me if you need someone to talk to.  Connecting with others in recovery is also very helpful.

Yes, the worst part is how

Yes, the worst part is how often addiction creeps over the boundaries we set. "I won't make an emotional connection with anyone in a game," after which we do; "I won't play at work," after which we do; "I won't leave work early to game," after which we do. I've compromised myself ethically with things like that before, and it always leaves me feeling unclean. I'm glad you're here--regular reading, posting, and meetings really do help. Thanks for sharing your story.

Welcome

Welcome Sammi!  You are definitely not alone.  I've gone to some of the voice meetings that Silvertabby mentioned and met many friendly supportive people.  After years and years of failing to control my life, I've finally turned things around with the help of this group.  Glad you're here.
