My bf is addicted to gaming

My boyfriend is addicted to playing games. I've been with him for 6 years and he always been a gamer and so have I. However my gaming never interfered with my life I play ever so often however he plays everyday, every night not sleeping and sleeping through the day. He is currently jobless for 3 years and all his time is spent during his jobless time is gaming and searching for work only when he needs go to the jobcentre.

It all drives me actually insane and I realise I'm enabling him by going to work and paying for everything, even applying for jobs for him. when he was working he was the most caring person we go out on dates etc now we hardly go out or have a day in the house together without him playing. Now I usually sit on my phone just to keep busy watch movies and stopping short of talking to the walls.

when I mention his gaming habits he always says I'm always on my phone. I only do this so I'm not driven insane by having no one to talk to and and always watch YouTube at tutorials for things to do outside of the house like photography.

I just feel like I cant do it anymore. I'm trying to hang on and just detach and not care, walk away. Everytime I do he comes to me, finds out where i am and begs for me back and he packs away his xbox. 2 weeks later it's back out and hes playing again. I realise now hes created a pattern knowing that I'll come back.

I just dont know what to do anymore. I know I need to leave and make it final because I dont think there is anything I can do to make him want to work again and not game.

Welcome to the forum Lori

Nothing you can do will rid him of his addiction. He has probably got to feel some bad consequnces to want to change himself.

This is just an opinion, from an addict. As gloomy as it sounds it will come down to a decision. Either you live with his behavior of going back every 2 weeks to gaming after you've had enough or you quietly start planning a life for yourself and stealth out of there like a rogue class in an RPG. I was similar to that the guy you describe and frankly you're not to blame AT ALL.

Disclaimer: I'm an addict.
