Google Lively to become online games platform

The article at http://www.gamesindustry.biz/...">http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/google-lively-to-become-online-gam... starts with:

Quote:Following confirmation that Google intends to open its virtual world Lively to games developers, creative director Kevin Hanna has revealed the long-term goal is for the service to become an online games platform.

Although there are already a number of available online games development platforms, I am concerned about this announcement due to the large pool of talented and dedicated people that Google can assign to this project. On the other hand, this is quite different from their core business so it is also quite possible that it may not become a major factor in games development. However, I would certainly not bet against Google eventually succeeding in anything that they decide to seriously compete in.

Sounds like an open source

Sounds like an open source Second Life clone. We needed that like a hole in the head. Good riddance.

John of the Roses, it was

John of the Roses, it was likely a temporary problem. When I just tried now, both the original post link and the one that I put in this morning both work fine for me with IE 7.0 on Windows XP. Also, another article with some more details about the shutdown is at Google pulls plug on Lively.

I have never heard about it

I have never heard about it ... This transition looks interesting. It showcases Google's adaptability and willingness to venture into new realms. With Google customer service backing this platform, users can likely expect a smooth and supportive gaming experience. This move could potentially reshape the landscape of online gaming, considering Google's technological prowess.
