An Addict's Anecdote

Hello everyone. This is a little long winded so bear with me here. I have enjoyed gaming as my main form of entertainment for the majority of my youth. In my high school years I was very successful academically and I participated in many extracurricular activities such as band. I also participated in the science fair in high school and received numerous placement awards at both the county and state levels. In my senior year I was selected to be a contestant in the International Science and Engineering fair, which is a very prestigious accomplishment. 1500 students from 63 countries all over the world came to compete in this competition. After this I even obtained a full ride scholarship to a 4 year university. I went to school to complete an Engineering degree. And then it all went downhill. All the while I was playing many games, but one in particular had me hooked. Its a little arcade F2P vehicle combat game called World of Tanks. That game had me hooked from the moment I purchased my first "free convertible" experience to move up modules.

I spent more and more time on that game. The more money I sunk into it, the more it became all consuming. I had to have all of the great and new vehicles that came out. After my first semester of college, my grades started to slip. I just ignored everything and everyone around me, only focused on the grind to the next vehicle. The next thing I know, I have been rotting for almost a year out of school, up to my eyeballs in Credit Card Debt from spending so much on one single game, alienating all of my friends and especially my parents, deceiving everyone around me. I am now going on 5 days game free, and getting my life straightened out. I'm actively looking for additional work to pay off my debts, and setting a long term goal plan to move my life in a positive direction.

Welcome, Sovereign_M! Glad

Welcome, Sovereign_M! Glad you found us. You've got a great plan. I hope we can help you get there. Keep coming back. Instead of gaming, come here and read posts, respond to posts, come to evening chat meetings as often as you need to.

Acceptance. When I am disturbed, it is because a person, place, thing, or situation is unacceptable to me. I find no serenity until I accept my life as being exactly the way it is meant to be. Nothing happens in God’s world by mistake.  Acknowledge the problem, but live the solution!

Hey! I have a similar story

Hey!

I have a similar story to you, and in fact I believe some of "our" success might be due to our love for video games, when it is not too much. Instead of doing dull exercises from math I would be analyzing if the 10 additional damage from that Sword would make up for the additional 1% crit chance from the Axe.

I actually started playing WoW during my first year at engineering school, but fortunately got tired of the grind, I mean, was I really having fun or just doing a shore so I could get that new tier of armor? I guess you figured that out too.

After that I decided that at least I wouldn't be spending any more $$ of videogames, and I haven't for many years now, I think you are on your way out too, good luck :)
