I'm back - first time posting

I am an addict. I game on the phone and on the computer. Stupid match 3 games. It drives my husband nuts. Every fight we have always comes back to my gaming. I came to OLGA last week and began creating an account only to be asked if I forgot my password. Needless to say I've tried to stop gaming before. This time I am 7 days clean. I have come to realize that I am incapable of moderation. I CANNOT game even for 5 minutes. My binges get increasingly worse. I tend to game out of boredom, frustration, being overwhelmed, anger and habit. When I'm gaming I usually reach for my phone before I put on my glasses in the morning and it's the last thing before I turn off the lights. It's affecting every area of my life - home, work, friendships, church and ministry. When I say ministry I mean a Celebrate Recovery ministry at my church for addicts. I am a leader believe it or not. It has been very humbling to confess before my ladies that I've fallen off the wagon but they have been far more gracious than I deserve. One of my graduates who is a crystal meth/alchol/cigarette addict is holding me to the fire. She has made me get off Facebook and is checking to be sure I'm off. I'm writing here to introduce myself and hold myself a little more accountable. Also, I'd love to hear from any women gamers. There seems to be a lot more males than females on here.

Welcome to OLGA celerec

Welcome to OLGA celerec

There are certainly female gamers that come to Olganon; please do not feel you are the only one!

Sometimes it is not obvious who is male or female!

Welcome!

Welcome Celerec!  First, you're definitely not alone - I'd say almost half of our fellowship are female recovering gaming addicts.  I too had been recovering in another fellowship for years when I became addicted to video games and found it to completely create unmanageability in my life.  In some ways I'd go as far as saying my gaming addiction was more damaging than my alcoholism due to how many hours a day I played and way it isolated me so totally from God and other people.  It's physically impossible to consume alcohol and drugs for as many hours a day every day as I "consumed" my games, and, while gaming, I was absorbed in my game and shut off from any spirituality or other people.  Be prepared for some withdrawal at least the first couple of weeks when you stop (the withdrawal symptoms are listed on the site).  Stopping gaming was agonizing and shocking for me the first 10 days until I later read the latest scientific and medical research which is showing that gaming overstimulates the brain in the same way stimulant drugs like meth and cocaine do and cause the same dopamine imbalance - so your accountability partner because of her experience with meth will be able to understand.  What has helped me the most is attending the online meetings here with other recovering video game addicts.  Here is the list and location of them each day http://www.olganon.org/forum/line-meetings-message-board/all-online-meetings-computervideo-gaming-addicts http://www.olganon.org/forum/line-meetings-message-board/all-online-meetings-computervideo-gaming-addicts.  Hope to see you in one!

Thanks y'all! It helps to

Thanks y'all! It helps to know there are others. What's excruciating for me so far is having a few minutes of downtime when normally I'd just pull out my phone and not having that. I almost have to physically restrain myself. It sometimes is literally moment by moment. I have noticed my mind seems "clearer". Less numb. Which is a relief but scary all at the same time. I'm also very snippy! I'm not normally the most patient person anyway but my poor family is catching it. I hope this gets easier. Surely it does.

On the meeting note, I've showed up for a couple of afternoon chat meetings but I've been the only one. Are the night meetings more active?

If you mean the Olganon/Olga

If you mean the Olganon/Olga chat room; (typed chat) Planner is usually there at 3pm on Thursday to chair. Otherwise we do not have regular leaders alough people may turn up at 9pm...I'm not sure, so that is hit and miss.

The mumble meetings  (voice/listen/type) I believe are better attended. You can start by just listening and do not have to speak if you don't want to.

Welcome! I'm a female gaming

Welcome! I'm a female gaming addict as well and relate to a number of things that you said.

The 10pm mumble meetings tend to have the most people at them, but the 1:30pm meetings (some on stepchat, some on mumble) have people at them regularly as well.
