Need Support

I am feeling so frustrated. My 17 year old stepson is, in my opinion, addicted to gaming. He usually is in boarding school, where they don't have internet connection, but he always manages to find one. He frequently misses classes at school. He has been home for 10 days and has been shut in his room the whole time playing his game. He doesn't bathe, he barely eats, if we interrupt his game, he freaks out. Last Friday, he became rather violent with me.

I have talked to friends and people who are actually recovering addicts themselves (alcoholism) but no one seems to take it seriously. I myself am a recovering alcoholic and I really see the signs of addiction in this kid. But people keep saying to me, this is all kids, or him and every other kid on earth right now. He spends 12 - 15 hours a day on this game. He is rude, he doesn't do anything with us as a family, doesn't interact, doesn't eat with us, etc. I am so frustrated because I feel like I am the crazy one for believing that this kid has a problem. Help!

Hi Worried Mama

Hi Worried Mama

12-15 hours gaming is not healthy and spells out addiction. Read through the information link for parents in my signature below and then make a plan that deals with whatever might happen once you start to make changes. Preparation and understanding are key here.

There is a lot of information to take in. Rome was not built in a day !

There is a parents meeting online every Thursday which may help you
