Don't feed the _ _ _ _ _!

Let's face it....Addiction is addiction anyway you slice it.
Before I fell into the gaming trap, i was addicted to food, shopping, drinking, music, fitness, and various other things along the way.... i have that personality. So its not surprising now that I look back and see the wreckage.... gaming was just another notch on the old addiction belt.
But now that I've worked the steps, examined the reasons why... i can better understand myself and these feelings. I've identified my triggers and I can sense when that demon is trying to manifest in other new areas of my life. This is HUGE for me! Because I know from past experiences, its always there.... waiting for a few crumbs....
I'd equate my addition to a hungry shark...anytime there's a drop of blood in the water.... its starts swimming towards me. I had that feeling yesterday when things were happening that trigger that response in me...but rather than let it consume me and feed it... I choose a different path...I got in my "shark cage" and looked that ugly demon in he face and said nope...GO AWAY!  And the more i practice this, the easier it gets. I know when the feelings and urges hit and I can say no know... making a better choice. I don't' have to let the shark devour me anymore....the key for me is knowing what it is, recognizing when its happening, and not feeding those feelings. I'm not afraid of it anymore no matter how ugly it is...I can use the tools and the things I've learned from my step work and stop feeding it...and that feels great! What are you feeding???

Love this analogy. This is some great stuff, Rain. You've come a long way and are making some amazing progress. I'm so excited for you!

Agree with Silvertabbly.

Agree with Silvertabbly. Rain makes analogies that leap off the page and stay in the mind. It's a gift...

Good one, Rain!

Good one, Rain!
