React or Respond

"You can react to situations that arise or you can respond to them. This is an important distinction. Reacting is done instinctively, without thought, while responding requires thought and choice.

"I delay my reactions so that I can respond to situations that used to baffle me."Pocket Sponsor, 24/7

Thank you for posting

Thank you for posting this. I am so guilty of reacting and not responding. When I think about things for awhile, it's easier for me to convey the real me. If I react, I'm reacting to old tapes in my head which are unhealthy. And that's my response after thinking about it, hehe.

:) What I am working on is

:)

What I am working on is space between the thought and feeling and the responding. Trying to get more time in between the feeling and the response.

It's not perfect, but working on it. Progress.

The practice of mindfulness

The practice of mindfulness began to bring this home to me. It's a total game changer. The more I move through life calmly, with a confident sense of who I am and what I'm about the less threatened, intimidated or disturbed I am and the more useful, the more generous. Not saying I'm responding rather than reacting all the time by any means, but that I'm there *ever* is way ahead of where I spent most of my life.

Acceptance. When I am disturbed, it is because a person, place, thing, or situation is unacceptable to me. I find no serenity until I accept my life as being exactly the way it is meant to be. Nothing happens in God’s world by mistake.  Acknowledge the problem, but live the solution!

For me, both go hand in

For me, both go hand in hand. First I react and then I respond. Next encounter, I react with my previous learned response and then reevaluate and respond again. The more I expose myself in each encounter, the more I can react appropriately in the situation. That is my experience. Practice makes it better.

It's good to have goals and dreams, but while you're waiting for things to change, waiting for promises to come to pass, don't be discontent with where you are. Learn to enjoy the season that you're in--Pastor Joel Osteen
