TED Talk - How to Make Stress Your Friend

I found this fascinating. By simply changing the way we think about stress, we change the way we handle stress - not just mentally, but in our very arteries.

And again and again and again, I keep getting pointed to our very real need for connection with others. It's in compassionate caring for ourselves and others that we find healthy life. Duh! lol

Give it a look and let me know what you think -

Acceptance. When I am disturbed, it is because a person, place, thing, or situation is unacceptable to me. I find no serenity until I accept my life as being exactly the way it is meant to be. Nothing happens in God’s world by mistake.  Acknowledge the problem, but live the solution!

That was very interesting.

That was very interesting. The one thing she said that jumped out at me was "Chasing meaning in your life is better than avoiding discomfort". My tendency is to do the opposite. I want to avoid discomfort as much as I can. I guess I should start working on chasing meaning.

I love that saying...chasing

I love that saying...chasing meaning rather than avoiding discomfort. While I have been actively seeking meaning, I also avoid discomfort big time. For me it was the lack of boundaries growing up that made me insecure and unsure of who I was as a person. That left me unable to deal with feelings and then in turn made me uncomfortable and wanting to avoid them. Thinking of things in a positive way is a new thing for me and I easily can drift off into Negativeville.

This research helps explain

This research helps explain why/how the fellowship workds, why the program works. Avoiding discomfort is what addiction is all about, and we find meaning in recovery by living a life of service to others. We reduce and manage stress by being part of the fellowship and serving. Beautiful.

I am a recovering computer game and gambling addict. My recovery birthday: On May 6, 2012 I quit games and began working a program of recovery through OLGA No computer games or slot games for me since December 12, 2012. No solitaire games with real cards since June 2013.

This is truly awesome! Heard

This is truly awesome!

Heard at a meeting: "I'm sober by the grace of God and the company I keep."

I've always believed it takes all of us to get and stay sober, and this video lets me know how it happens. We do need each other.

And another thing,

And another thing, especially about the science, God gives us everything in the body that we need for stress.

Blows me away.

Thanks for sharing GaL, I

Thanks for sharing GaL, I love it! My marriage counselor also suggested several Ted talk to us.

It's good to have goals and dreams, but while you're waiting for things to change, waiting for promises to come to pass, don't be discontent with where you are. Learn to enjoy the season that you're in--Pastor Joel Osteen
