Again, ideas about chatroom at olganon

I would like to see more people in the general chatroom, to come for daily chat/support or to ask questions and ideas.

I've seen people get a lot of support in 12-step chatrooms at other websites online. And I hope to see the chat here at olganon a bit more busy. I'm not sure what the online meetings look like now, but I know I would like to be more active myself to support my own sobriety to gaming.

When I've been here it seems the chatroom is always *empty* and maybe it's just I'm in the wrong time-zone?

Is there a way to make newcomers find their way into chat easier? From the first homepage? It can also be a great way to get to know each other for future sponsoring etc.

I am well aware that some come with addictions to chatrooms as well, which can be a big part of online gaming, altho I hope the focus on recovery will be bigger than the fear of relapsing to gaming because of chat.

Welcome Back Anne! I think

Welcome Back Anne! I think maybe scheduling some times for "us" to be more aware of the open chat room would be good. Like I could sign up to be in the chat room from 1 pm to 5 pm on certain days. as an example.

I think it is important,

I think it is important, that someone ALWAYS be in the chatroom. What would be really nice, is if someone comes in, a bell rings, in case the manning person is not right next to the computer, so they know someone has come in. John, Can you create a schedule, to see who would like to volunteer to do man the chatroom, and when? James, Can you add a sound feature to the chatroom, so we know when someone comes in? I know this can be done. It is done in mrc. Thank you, Liz

That's a GREAT idea Liz!!!

That's a GREAT idea Liz!!! With the bell. Because I sit and wait and miss people coming in when I'm in another window... I would love to support chat, but my hours vary a lot due to RL sometimes. I think willingness and awareness is a good start :D

A schedule? I'm not sure we

A schedule? I'm not sure we have enough people to have a schedule, and I don't know enoyugh people that might adhere to a schedule. I think we need a schedule of sorts when the dr phil show airs but that would / could be a model for future chat availability.

Been looking around. I don't

Been looking around. I don't think I can. There is a sound notification on messages. If someone comes in and sends a message it should play a sound if your window is minimized. That is already turned on.

I think you have a

I think you have a "marketing problem" ;-) I looked at it several times and all I see is a blank page with 990, oops 991 reads. I understand from my loving ex-gamer next to me that she sees a chat room. So it must be a privilege you earn with being a game addict :-) Maybe it is better to have several rooms? I bet some spouses also are looking for contact. You may even consider a general room where everyone has access and the "members" have admin rights to kick any abusers. A simple google search gives multiple hits, some free some will cost you a bit (maybe if you talk with them you get a free one, ha I am Dutch).

Anyone that is registered on

Anyone that is registered on the site should be able to see the chat room. What web browser are you using and what version? You may try clearing your browser's cache and cookies.

Approaching the "idea" of

Approaching the "idea" of this thread, as myself as a moderator now of four meetings each week, I am going to commit a half hour before and after each of these meetings to be in chat "general chat" to host the meeting before the meeting, and the meeting after the meeting.
