Spare or Unused

Hello,

I'm kinda new to the site but in all honesty, I've been lurking about for some time. A little about myself first. I played WoW at the highest of levels for roughly 5 years before quitting. Since then, I haven't been emersed in any online game in any significant way. I have played Warhammer online; however, it's primarily a pvp game and therefore much less engaging and easier to walk away from. I did notice that Warhammer Online isn't on your list of addictive games ... perhaps for that reason.

To the point. I am finishing up my degree at the university this semester. I am completeing a Business Administration with an Marketing Focus degree. As such, ideas about who and where to find or market items or ideas are usually floating into and out of my mind. One idea I've been toying with is where to find inexpensive, used high end computer equipment. Now stay with me here. In the process of looking for a source for the item, I had to take a look at the "who" for the item. That is to say "who would be willing to or have used high end computer equipment to sell?" One of my answers was people who have quit gaming; i.e., you.

As a resource pool, my goofy gamer friends and I discovered that between the 5 of us, we could build a gaming system just from the spare parts we had lying around. We did just that, and sold the computer (which would run just about anything and most on high settings) for far more than the individual parts would have ever sold for on craigslist or ebay etc.

Still there? Now, imagine the resource pool of used, unneeded or under-used higher(ish) end computer gear the members of this site must have lying around. I wasn't able to determine your member size, but even a moderate group should have quite a bit of viable gear.

Here's a free idea that would benefit your site, your members, and the landfills. Set up an e-commerce landing page so that your members could sell, through the site, old gaming gear they don't need anymore. Have the site take a small % fee of every sale to fund the site. It's a win-win that's eco-friendly. Not only would you be able to draw more hits to your site just based upon players looking at your gear (optimized search engines etc) but you may be able to actually get your message across to players who have a problem, but maybe were not aware there was help.

As a new member here, I'm not sure how this will be taken. Selling computer gear to game addicts may not seem like a good idea. In my defense, Needle Exchange Clinics for heroine users have done more to educate and help heroine addicts than any national mothers group "against drugs".

Just a free idea that could end up doing a lot of good for everyone.

Games? I've no time for games. Games are for old women and children. Bingo and hopscotch. A man cannot afford to be foolish with his time. Too soon the grave calls and the Lord judges.

Interesting idea, but we'll let eBay do what eBay does best.

Nice to have you here.

I use my desktop PC and laptop (which are both Dell XPS) for work and leisure. I am a tech Geek. Nope. I won't give them up. ;-)

The question is....will you be able/courageous/adult enough to sacrifice that which merely pleases you...for that which will truly fulfill you? That is the question of personal growth.

Epic Loser, Your idea,

Epic Loser, Your idea, while having little merit overall, is meaningless to our mission statement, ie: why we are here. We are not here to give you anything except our experience, strength & hope in your recovery from excessive gaming.

ALL quoted text (unless otherwise stated) comes from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (with wording sometimes changed only to make it more relevant for gaming addiction). I will include page numbers.

Hoping & praying for a measure of recovery for all of us today.
