Thank you for sharing Dr

Thank you for sharing Dr Gabor Mate's videos! He is very good in explaining addiction and everything related to it. I am looking forward to having some time to sit down and watch them.

"Once you accept yourself, you open the door to change. That's all you have to do." "Change is not something you do, it's something you allow."- Will Garcia

Love the insight this

Love the insight this provides about the root causes of addictions.

Struggling with the compassionate approach though.. after having had a shouting match with my ex 3 days ago I decided to contact him today.. and be compassionate. I apologied for MY behaviour towards him and told him he was loved and missed. Not the co-dependant type apologies from the past. No dismissing or justifying his behaviour. This is 3 weeks after I moved out with my son, detached and ended the relationship. And what did I get back.. nothing. Absolutely. nothing. Cold practicalities about money and living arrangements.

So what did I learn...#1 that my increased understanding does not mean his increases...#2 doing the 'right thing' means the right thing for ME..I know I acted in the correct, compassionate way, even if it was wasted on him..#3 my personal growth and recovery is going to be painful.. days like this will happen again and again, but the fact that I am doing it, pushing on and not giving up.. is all that matters.
